SPECIFI participated in the Future Internet Assembly 2013 event, which was held in Dublin, 7-10th May 2013. Future Internet Assembly is a research community driven initiative sustained by more than 150 research projects that have acknowledged the need to reinforce European activities on the Future Internet (FI) to keep up European competitiveness. FIA events aim to redesign a significant part of the Internet, taking a broad multidisciplinary approach, to meet European societal, business and technology ambitions.

The theme for FIA-Dublin was “Future Internet accelerates Innovation”, and the event focused on how European Future Internet research and innovation will support EU’s competitiveness and enable a new wave of technologies at the eve of Horizon 2020.

SPECIFI had a strong presence at the event with the main objective of making the Future Internet community aware of the Creative Ring initiative and invite them to participate. For this purpose SPECIFI organised 2 different activities: The 1st Creative Ring open session and the Creative Ring demo.

The Creative Ring session was organized as part of the pre-FIA workshops and in particular in the context of the Connected Smart Cities Network full day workshop. The objectives of the 1st open session were to discuss with internal and external stakeholders the vision, structure, composition and roadmap of the Creative Ring. The agenda of the session can be found here. The full session report can be found here.

The Creative Ring demo, part of the FIA Dublin FIRE exhibition, demonstrated the potential of the Creative Ring in the field of performing arts. Musicians physically located in 4 different cities in Europe (Trento, Kortrijk, Barcelona and Dublin) virtually met in FIA Dublin to demonstrate the potential of the Creative Ring. Several real-life jam sessions were performed during three consecutive days and as a result musicians that had not met or played together before created a unique flamenco fusion performance using the Creative Ring infrastructure (provided by SPECIFI and Visionair resources). A video result of these demos can be seen here.

If you missed FIA Dublin and you are willing to participate or to know more, please join us in the upcoming 2nd open session of the Creative Ring, held during the 4th ENoLL Living Lab Summer School (http://4thenollsummerschool.wordpress.com/day-2-innovation-day/ws-2-creative-ring/) and join us also in the ICT 2013 event in Vilnius (http://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/ict-2013).
